Weekend Feast of Sports for Greater Lansing Fans: Football, Basketball, Hockey, and More!

Thanksgiving dinner will be just the start of the weekend feast for Greater Lansing sports fans.

Basketball, football — pro, college and high school — and hockey are all on the television menu over the next several days.

Detroit Lions football

Fans can start gorging midday Thursday when the Detroit Lions play the Green Bay Packers (12:30 p.m., Fox) for their annual Thanksgiving Day game at Ford Field. The difference this year is there are actual playoff ramifications for the Lions (8-2), who are off to their best start in more than 60 years.

Michigan State basketball

Following the Lions game, Spartan fans will want to switch over to hoops. Michigan State (3-2), which is ranked 19th in the coaches poll and 21st in The Associated Press poll, faces Arizona (5-0), which is No. 3 in both polls, in the Acrisure Classic in Palm Springs, California (4 p.m., Fox).

Football and more football

There are also two more high-profile NFL games on Thanksgiving Day, with the Dallas Cowboys hosting the Washington Commanders (4:30 p.m., CBS) and the San Francisco 49ers playing at the Seattle Seahawks (8:20 p.m., NBC).

Friday brings a busy day of college football, with 13 televised games — the most noteworthy for local fans at night when Michigan State (4-7) plays No. 11 Penn State (9-2) in Detroit at Ford Field (7:30 p.m., NBC).

Saturday features another huge lineup of football, with numerous rivalry games across college football ― including The Game between No. 2 Ohio State (11-0) and No. 3 Michigan (11-0) at The Big House in Ann Arbor (Noon, Fox).

Also on Saturday are the first four of eight Michigan High School Athletic Association football state championship games at Ford Field. All four games — Division 8 (10 a.m.), Division 4 (1 p.m.), Division 6 (4:30 p.m.) and Division 2 (7:30 p.m.) will be televised on Bally Sports Detroit.

Mason, Corunna play Sunday

And there will still be plenty of good football leftovers to consume on Sunday, including four more high school championship games. Two Greater Lansing teams will be playing for titles — Mason in Division 3 (12:30 p.m., Bally Sports Detroit Extra) and Corunna in Division 5 (4 p.m., Bally Sports Detroit). The Division 7 game will be at 9:30 a.m. and the Division 1 title game will be at 7 p.m., both on Bally Sports Detroit.

Michigan State hockey

In addition to the football, MSU hockey fans get a chance to see their surging team on Sunday. The No. 7-ranked Spartans (10-3-1), who sit atop the Big Ten standings after sweeping then-No. 1 Wisconsin last weekend, will play at No. 8 Minnesota (2 p.m., Big Ten Network) in the second game of their series. The teams also play on Friday night (8 p.m., BTN plus).
