The Latvian volleyball team will play in the European Gold League with Estonia, Belgium and the Czech Republic

The Latvian men’s volleyball team will play in the European Gold League next year in the same group as Estonia, Belgium and the Czech Republic, according to the Latvian Volleyball Federation.

Latvia’s 23rd place in the European ranking has allowed it to continue competing in the Gold League. 12 teams were divided into groups A, B and C, where the Latvian men’s team was drawn to a place in group C.

The victory will have to be fought with the already traditional and fiercest opponent of the Estonian national team, as well as the strong Belgian national team, which was also played in the 2021 Gold League Group B, and this time the third opponent will be the Czech team.

The start of the competition is scheduled for May 25, where the teams of each group will play two rounds with each other, thus the Latvian team will host each of the group’s opponents, as well as play three games. The teams will compete for the final four, which will take place on June 18 and 19 in Croatia, and the strongest teams of all three groups will meet.

In total, the national federations of 24 countries and their teams will participate in the Gold and Silver Leagues. CEV also wants to provide a high-class European League competition this year, where participants will have the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming 2023 European Championship qualifiers, which are expected at the end of summer 2022.

The Latvian women’s national team will not play in the European League this year, but will focus on the U-21 national team, which will compete shortly before the European League.
