Wolfsburg. A total of four athletes from VfL Wolfsburg took part in the Tiger Cup 2024 in Visbek, including a debutant.
The Tiger Cup 2024 recently took place in Visbek (near Vechta). The VfL Wolfsburg judo department was there with four fighters. The quartet delivered very satisfactory performances, as did the coaching team Andrej Haak, Danny Karolek and Jacques Komosinski located.
Teodor Ababii (mU18; up to 81 kg), Alexander Haak (mU15; up to 66kg), Marley Garland (up to 63kg) and Enrico Noack (up to 100 kg), this is how the “Wolves” team was made up. A total of 650 fighters from 100 clubs were registered. Due to the high demand, the organizers closed the registration window early.

On the first day of the tournament Theodore Ababii made the beginning. As the youngest judoka in the U18 age group, he fought hard and didn’t make things easy for his opponents. He also won the first duel with a counterattack by Uchi Mata Sukashi. Getting into the semi-finals was perfect. But he was defeated in the two subsequent fights. He ultimately ended up in 5th place.
On the second day of the tournament, the remaining VfL judoka took to the mat. First was Alexander Hook it’s turn. Three fights and two wins later he was in a good third place. Haak won the small final with a combination of a fake Koshi Guruma and a Tani Otoshi for an ippon victory.
The adults included fighters Marley Garland and Enrico Noack reported. Garland had four fights in total. She won the first with two waza-ari (second highest score). In the second fight no winner could be found after the regular fight time. The “Golden Score” had to bring about the decision. Garland knocked her opponent to the ground with a Ura Nage and won. In the semifinals it was over for Garland, who won the fight for third place with a throwing technique (Seio Nage).
Finally, Noack made his tournament debut. Unfortunately, both fights were lost. The path to the podium remained closed for him.
