Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton Cash in on All-NBA Selections with Lucrative Contract Boost

Named to one of the three All-NBA Teams this night, Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton will add a nice jackpot to their max contract signed in the summer of 2023.

Respectively named to the All-NBA Second Team and the All-NBA Third Team, Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton will receive more than An additional $40 million over the duration of their next contract, ranging from the 2024-25 season to 2028-29. The two young stars of the 2020 NBA Draft will in fact receive 245 million dollars over five years (30% of the salary cap) instead of the 204 million (25% of the salary cap) that their contract initially indicated.

Here are the numbers, season by season, via Bobby Marks ofESPN. They are based on projections of the next salary cap, which should increase significantly with the new TV rights deal which is about to be signed.

A nice little bonus that should boost the morale of Edwards and Haliburton, who both fell in Game 1 of the Conference Finals. On the other hand, this will inevitably complicate the task a little for the leaders of the Pacers but especially the Wolves (with the big contracts of Jaden McDaniels, Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert), who will see their payroll increase even further to a period when the NBA intends to penalize the most spending teams.

Note that unlike Ant and Haliburton, the Sixers guard Tyrese Maxey – another All-Star of the 2020 NBA Draft and MIP this season – was left out of the All-NBA teams. This means that he will have to settle for a contract extension worth $205 million over five years (that’s okay, right), which he will sign this summer with Philadelphia.
