Matteo Berrettini to Miss Roland-Garros Again in 2024

It is not yet this year that Matteo Berrettini will make his return to Roland-Garros. Forfeited in 2022 and 2023, the Italian (28 years old) will also miss the 2024 edition of the Parisian Grand Slam, of which he reached the quarter-finals during his last participation, in 2021 (defeat in four sets against Novak Djokovic) .

Berrettini announced his decision on Instagram on Thursday: “Even though I have been training at an increasingly high level, my staff and I feel that I am not completely ready to play five-set matches. »

Worried by numerous physical problems in recent seasons, the former world number 6, now 96th in the ATP rankings, has not appeared on the circuit since his elimination, in the first round of the Masters 1000 in Monte-Carlo, against Miomir Kecmanovic (6-3, 6-1), early April. The previous week, however, he had won in Marrakech, on an ATP 250, to win his first title since his victory at Queen’s in 2022.

It is also the grass season that he is now targeting for his return to competition. “I’m almost there, I’m still missing a little time,” he concluded.
