Taking a Closer Look at the Under in the Reds-Mariners Game: A Betting Recommendation

Today, my main choice in major league baseball is: less than 4.5 runs will be scored in the first five innings of the Reds-Mariners game. I suggested this bet at 10:03 am Eastern Time, and at that time you could get 1.78 your bet.

The rating has unfortunately changed since then. At the time I wrote this article, around 10:30 a.m., the best rating was 1.69. You can also choose “less than four points” if you prefer. I’ll leave it up to you to decide!

Let’s take a closer look at the starting pitchers, since they will obviously play a significant role in the outcome of this bet.

The Reds will start with Frankie Montas. The 31-year-old veteran is off to a good start with his new club, posting a 2.16 ERA. He barely played last year due to injury, but in his previous two seasons he was certainly an above-average pitcher. In fact, his walks/hits allowed per inning record was 1.25 and 1.18 during those years, which is better than the league average (1.30).

Meanwhile, George Kirby will take the mound for Seattle. He was extremely good last year, but he’s been roughed up so far in the 2024 season. He’s allowed 13 runs in 14 1/3 innings.

That said, I’m not pressing the panic button at all on his prospects this year. It’s only a small sample size, but he still had 13 strikeouts against two walks. I have no doubt he will bounce back. It’s also worth noting that his earned run average has been much lower at home than away in 2023, so he has a better chance of doing better tonight at T-Mobile Park.

The Reds have scored a lot of points this season, but I think Kirby can keep them in check. Meanwhile, the Mariners had the third-lowest point total in the big leagues. So, don’t expect them to explode tonight.

For all these reasons, let’s go with the lower option in the first half of the Cincinnati-Seattle game, shall we? I wish you good luck with your betting. I’ll be there tomorrow to give you more advice!
