Luis León Sánchez conquers the second stage of the Skoda Titan Desert Morocco and rises to the lead

MADRID, 29 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Luis León Sánchez (Kosner Saltoki-Home) won this Monday in the second stage of the Skoda Titan Desert Morocco 2024 and is the new leader with the same time as Sergio Mantecón, while the Dutch Tessa Kortekaas (Cannondale ISB Sport), who won the second day, dominates in the women’s category.

The Murcian, four-time Spanish time trial champion and national road champion in 2020, paid for the hazing on Sunday by losing time in a cut that the most veterans did know how to take advantage of, but this Monday he managed to come back despite some mechanical problems in the start that made him fall behind the rest of the favorites.

Thus, on an atypical day of cold and rain, Mula pulled his team and, among cyclists of the caliber of Miguel Induráin and Óscar Pereiro, he reached the top in a leg-breaking terrain in the Saghro mountains. Finally, Kosner Saltoki-Home won in a tight sprint.

Now, ‘Luisle’ is the leader with the same time as Sergio Mantecón, while Josep Betalú was hampered by mechanical problems that relegated him to third position.

The winner of the stage had “a little difficulty at the beginning” when he broke the chain. “I wanted to thank the entire team, especially Óscar (Pereiro), who has been able to change the chain as quickly as possible. To a greater or lesser extent everyone has contributed their grain of sand, especially Miguel (Induráin) or Pau (Marzà), who have done very well,” he highlighted in statements provided by the Kosner-Saltoki Home team.

“Five riders have arrived here. I didn’t plan on competing in the stage today, this thing of winning, losing or tying isn’t my thing. I’m here to enjoy myself. The team has been very good to me, there have been teammates who even They have stopped with me and helped me a lot. I had to thank them in this way for the stage victory,” he added.

In the women’s category, the Dutch Tessa Kortekaas (Cannondale ISB Sport) dominates with a firm hand and is already more than 30 minutes ahead of Pilar Fernández, her immediate pursuer. The rolling cyclist, an expert in flat efforts, comes out in the lead after two days of pure mountain riding.
