Captain of Darmstadt 98 suffers torn cruciate and medial ligaments

The season is over for captain Fabian Holland of Bundesliga club Darmstadt 98, which is in danger of relegation. The defender’s knee injury from last Sunday’s home game against SC Freiburg (0-1) turned out to be a torn cruciate and medial ligament upon further examination.

According to further information from Hessen, the 33-year-old will also be out for “large parts of the upcoming season” in addition to the remaining games in the promoted team’s fight to stay in the league.

Further details of the treatment will only be decided in the next few days, as will a date for the necessary operation.

Darmstadt’s coach Torsten Lieberknecht reacted dejectedly to the bad news for the defeated bottom of the table.

“For all of us at the club, but especially for him, the diagnosis is of course an absolute shock that we now have to digest,” said the coach.
