Mayor Martina Fehrlen presented 130 bronze medals, 32 silver medals and seven gold medals, moderated in an entertaining manner by head of the cultural department Achim Grockenberger. The “Dance and Gymnastics” gymnasts from Lorch provided a brilliant start to the evening with their performance.
Athletic performance is multifaceted
“Now I have back pain from watching,” a footballer from the audience commented on the gymnastic, flexible performance – not all sports are the same. One runs or practices aiming accuracy, the other does gymnastics or throws the opponent onto the mat. The fact that achievements cannot be compared is also noticed by moderator Achim Grockenberger, who tries to explain the achievements of the honorees in a way that is understandable to a broad audience. All in all, that’s not important at all: the women and men, boys and girls on stage know what they have achieved and can justifiably be proud of themselves.
It was “inspiring to see how they not only grow physically, but also learn values such as discipline, team spirit and fair play,” said the mayor in her speech. “Sport offers a platform that unites us,” and we can achieve a lot as a community if we stick together. Then you can not only enjoy the triumph of victory, but also overcome the challenge of defeat.
