Judo: France European champion in the team event

And two! The day after Audrey Tcheuméo’s tears and title in -78 kilos, France won a second gold medal, in Zagreb, during the European Judo Championships. This time it’s in the team event.

This is the second time, after 2022, that the Blues have won in this competition since it became mixed in 2018. In the final, the French defeated the reigning champion, Georgia (4-0) .

Faïza Mokdar (-57 kg), Margaux Pinot (-70 kg), Joan-Benjamin Gaba (-73 kg) and Alexis Mathieu (-90 kg) won respectively against Eteri Liparteliani, Mariam Tchanturia, Lasha Shavdatuashvili and Lasha Bekauri .

To reach the final, France swept Austria (4-0) in the quarter-finals, before struggling in its semi-final against Germany (4-2). The French team therefore ends this European weekend with 2 gold medals, 2 silver and 3 bronze.

Like Audrey Tcheuméo, Faïza Mokdar, Margaux Pinot and Alexis Mathieu will not be present at the Paris Olympic Games, places being limited. Only Joan-Benjamin Gaba will be present at the Olympics among the judokas who led the Blues to the title.
