ATLANTA – Desmond Ridder of the Atlanta Falcons and Sam Howell of the Washington Commanders are coming off their best career aerial game and will face each other on Sunday in a duel between two second-year quarterbacks.
The Commanders (2-3) will try to end a three-game losing streak. They have allowed 33 points or more in their last four games, including a 40-20 loss last week in front of their fans.
The poor defensive performance overshadowed Howell’s career highs of 37 completions and 388 yards.
Ridder, for his part, had his first 300-yard game, also setting career highs of 28 catches and 329 yards in a 21-19 victory over the Houston Texans. Ridder got a touchdown pass and ran for another major, before being the architect of the final offensive sequence that led to Younghoe Koo’s decisive 37-yard field goal.
