Mario Basler and Joshua Kimmich will probably no longer be friends. After the defeat against Leipzig, the former Bayern player finds clear words again.

Munich – It is well known that Mario Basler likes to polarize opinions. If he criticizes, then right. Joshua Kimmich is one that the former FC Bayern player has been aiming for for some time. At the end of last season, Basler said that the midfielder was “completely overrated”, and after the first game of the new season he immediately began criticizing again.

Basler blames Kimmich for Bayern’s poor performance

In his “Basler ballert” podcast, the 54-year-old said he watched the Supercup between Leipzig and FC Bayern on Saturday at home on TV and analyzed it for himself. According to Basler, Joshua Kimmich is once again responsible for the poor performance of Munich. “Kimmich is the player who makes Bayern completely confused. I will continue to focus on Kimmich, because Kimmich’s performance is sub-par,” he said.

The problem: According to Basler, Kimmich does not hold his position, so it does not matter who is in midfield next to him. “Laimer, who was an outstanding player for me in Leipzig. It doesn’t matter where he ran to, Kimmich ran after him and Kimmich kept playing,” said the 54-year-old.

Basler gives Bayern coach Tuchel a tip

Basler, who is known for his clear words, then has a tip for Thomas Tuchel. Because instead of Kimmich, he would send the midfield duo Konrad Laimer and Leon Goretzka onto the field. Kimmich would not then put Basler on the bench, in his opinion he could take on the role of right-back.

This option has already been discussed elsewhere, because there could soon be a vacancy at FC Bayern. Kyle Walker canceled the German record champions, Benjamin Pavard could leave the club soon. Then there would be a need that could be covered from within the company’s own ranks. About this possibility already had Kicker reported.

Basler on Kimmich: “Keep playing exactly the same crap”

But that’s not all of Mario Basler’s criticism. Because for some time now, the 54-year-old has been particularly interested in a topic related to Kimmich: shooting the corners. “He continues to play exactly the same crap as he played last season. Now he’s learned one thing with his corner kicks: now he no longer shoots them wide, but right into the hands of the goalkeeper,” Basler remarked ironically.

Coach Thomas Tuchel apparently sees similar problems, because he has been demanding a new six for a few weeks. Kimmich recently responded to this request. (msb)
