Since he became UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones does not necessarily have an irreproachable behavior towards the organization. While Dana White wanted to see him in the cage in July, the American finally decided that he would wait until November and Madison Square Garden… A former, exasperated by his behavior, posted him cash.

Jon Jones was expected at the turn of the year 2023, and for the moment, he has met all expectations by becoming (finally) UFC heavyweight champion. And he didn’t just reclaim the belt, he did it in style by knocking out Ciryl Gane in just two minutes thanks to quite a terrifying submission.

The problem for the UFC is that the new king of the organization does not seem determined to return quickly, which immobilizes the category a little. Dana White dreamed of seeing him again in July for a top fight against Stipe Miocic, but Jonny Bones would obviously prefer to wait until November to be able to fight in New York, his native state.

Jon Jones motivated solely by money?!

And that’s not the only concern caused by the man many consider to be the GOAT, since he announced that his next appearance would probably be the last before retirement… And for Chael Sonnen, who spoke on his channel YouTube, this decision would not come from the lack of competition, from potential adversaries, but from its portfolio:

In all honesty, Jon Jones no longer fights for the sporting challenge, he doesn’t even fight to win titles anymore. He fights for the money. If we take that element out of the equation, it will never come back. This is the only reason why he is still active, the question does not even arise. He fought once in three years.

According to Chael Sonnen, former rival of Jones Jones at the UFC, the latter would no longer be active by passion and love of mixed martial arts, but simply because he would need money for him and his family. And in his next fight for the belt, against legend Stipe Miocic, he should save enough to live peacefully without having to climb back into the cage.

A point of view that stands and makes sense, but can we really blame a man who has been fighting since a young age, who is still the youngest champion in history and who has nothing left to prove? at the highest level ? Jon Jones deserves a good rest, and a last big check could obviously help him to apprehend the future more serenely.

For Chael Sonnes, Jon Jones would only be interested in one thing before retirement: money. Because no other fighter will be as profitable for him as Stipe Miocic, he wouldn’t really have any interest in getting back in the cage afterwards.
