Several German and English media claim that the Belgian, coach of Burnley relegated to the 2nd English division this season, will become the next coach of Bayern Munich.
Belgian Vincent Kompany (38), coach of Burnley relegated to the 2nd English division this season, is close to joining Bayern Munich to replace Thomas Tuchel as coach, several German and English media said on Wednesday evening.
According to the German daily Bild and German television Sky, an agreement in principle has been reached between Bayern and Vincent Kompany for the Belgian to become the next coach of the Munich club. According to Bild, Bayern must now reach an agreement with Burnley, where Kompany still has four years of contract.
Not the first on the list
Dispossessed of the German championship title, for the first time since 2013, by Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich is looking for a new coach, after having decided at the end of February to part ways at the end of Thomas’ season Tuchel, after a series of negative results.
Bayern suffered a series of setbacks in its quest for a new coach, first targeting Xabi Alonso, who announced at the end of March to stay on the Leverkusen bench, then Julian Nagelsmann who extended his mandate at the head of the selection German team until the 2026 World Cup, and Ralf Rangnick, who has decided to remain coach of Austria until the summer of 2026.
Recently, the Munich leaders had not managed to find an agreement with Thomas Tuchel to continue the adventure. The idea of keeping the German technician resurfaced after the Champions League run (elimination in the semi-finals against Real Madrid).
Having passed through Hamburg when he was a player (2006/08) before joining Manchester City (2008/19), Vincent Kompany began his coaching career at Anderlecht in the summer of 2019, spending a season as player-coach.
In the summer of 2022, he took the reins of Burnley and won the title of champion of the 2nd English division in the spring of 2023. But he failed to keep up, finishing the 2023/24 season in 19th place in the Premier League.
