Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green suspended for one game for kicking Domantas Sabonis

The Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green has been suspended by the NBA. The forward sits out the next game against the Sacramento Kings after kicking Domantas Sabonis in Game 2.

The NBA announced this in a statement. Accordingly, the past and previous offenses for “unsportsmanlike conduct” also played a role in the sentence. The 33-year-old does not receive his salary for Game 3 either. According to Shams Charania (The Athletic) the Warriors were surprised by this decision, they probably only expected a fine for the forward.

Green was ejected with a flagrant-2 foul in the fourth quarter of the Warriors’ defeat in Sacramento after stepping on the chest of a downed Domantas Sabonis after the Lithuanian grabbed Green’s ankle. “I wanted to protect myself after I fell and that’s what happened,” Sabonis explained the situation. “There’s no room for that in our game.”

The Lithuanian was examined immediately after the game, it was found that his sternum was contused. According to his own statement, the center wants to play in game 3. Green himself tried to defend himself after the game. “For the second time in the series, my leg was pinned down and the refs just looked on,” Green said. “I have to put my foot somewhere because I’m not really flexible. I can’t walk that far if someone is holding my leg.”

It’s another setback for the Warriors after the reigning champion lost both games in Sacramento and now needs to win four of the next five games to win the series.
