World Baseball Classic Returns to Puerto Rico for 2026 Tournament

The World Baseball Classic returns to Puerto Rico for the first time since 2013.

Today, Major League Baseball (MLB) confirmed that Hiram Bithorn Stadium will be one of the stadiums for the first round of the next World Baseball Classic to be held in March 2024.

Miami will host all three rounds of the event, including the finals, for the second consecutive classic;

Minute Maid Park in Houston will host the World Classic for the first time.

The first round games will be played for the sixth time at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

The Bithorn was used in the first three editions: 2006, 2009 and 2013.

“We are deeply grateful and full of pride for having been selected once again as one of the venues for the 2026 edition,” said Anaymir “Tuti” Muñoz, Vice President of MB Sports.

“This decision reflects the global recognition of San Juan as a top-level venue for global sporting events,” said the capital’s mayor, Miguel Romero.

In 2023 the total number of teams was expanded to 20 for the first time in the history of the tournament. The 16 teams that finished in the top four of their respective first-round groups in the 2023 Classic are invited to play in 2026. They will be joined by four teams that will have advanced from the 2025 Qualifiers.
