Vingegaard overtakes Pogacar at Paris-Nice

TOur winner Jonas Vingegaard took valuable seconds from Tadej Pogacar on the third stage of the Paris-Nice long-distance race and overtook his Slovenian rival in the overall standings. The Dane Vingegaard and his racing team Jumbo-Visma won the team time trial around Dampierre-en-Burly (32.3 kilometers) in 33:55 minutes just ahead of the teams EF Education-EasyPost (+0.01 minutes) and Jayco AlUla (+ 0.04).

The yellow jersey went to Magnus Cort Nielsen (EF Education) from Denmark on Tuesday. Vingegaard is fifth in the battle for overall victory, three seconds behind his compatriot. Pogacar, who was 12 seconds ahead of Vingegaard before the stage, slipped down to tenth and is now 11 seconds off the Tour champion. Pogacar’s UAE Team Emirates was only fifth (+0:23).

The German racing team Bora-hansgrohe with two-time overall winner Maximilian Schachmann finished sixth, 25 seconds behind. Schachmann climbed to 17th place overall.

Eight stages have to be mastered in the 81st edition of the race to the sun. On Wednesday, on the fourth stage (165 kilometers) from Saint-Amand-Montrond to La Loge des Gardes, the first mountain finish awaits the peloton, the stage is completed with a 6.7-kilometer climb of the first category. The tour ends in Nice on Sunday

On Tuesday there was an innovation in the regulations: the time of the fourth-best driver in a team was no longer taken, but when the individual drivers crossed the finish line was measured exactly.
