Italian cyclist Antonio Tiberi received a 4,000 euro fine for killing a cat in San Marino, referring to the Italian media, reports the agency “Reuters”.

Tiberi committed the crime when he wanted to try out an air rifle, aimed it at the cat’s head and fired. The cat belonged to his neighbor, San Marino tourism minister Pedini Amati.

“That cat didn’t bother anyone, he was with us for a long time. My three-year-old daughter Lucia loved him. Well, you can’t kill an animal and get away with a fine of 4,000 euros,” Corriere della Sera newspaper quotes Amati as saying.

Amati appreciates that Tiberi confessed to what he did, but at the same time points out that such persons should not be given permission to live in San Marino.

In 2019, the 21-year-old Tiberi was crowned the world junior champion in the individual race. The Italian represents the World Tour team “Trek-Segafredo” and in the multi-day cycling races held in Australia and the United Arab Emirates at the beginning of the season, he finished in the top eight overall, but was among the top three in the young riders’ rating.
