Canada beat Australia this Sunday in the Davis Cup final held in Malaga, a historic competition that Gerard Piqué completely transformed in 2019, introducing a series of changes that do not end up satisfying many. The ‘Tennis World Cup’ does not contemplate transformations in the format of the competition because “it has come to stay”, assured the president of the International Tennis Federation, the American David Haggertyand the general director of Kosmos Tennis, the Spanish Enrique Rojasin a press conference prior to the final of the tournament played by the Canadian and Australian teams.

“The year 2022 has been exciting and we have managed to stabilize the format. It is to stay, to remain. I do not expect any changes in the near future,” Haggerty settled. “I think that in the association that we have with the ATP we have very clear the weeks of the Davis Cup. There is not much room to change that and we do not want to change it“added the ITF president.

Enric Rojas argued: “The previous format seemed a bit confusing for the players, and we have listened to them, and that is why we have made those changes.” Although the ITF does not close the definitive door for the future: “It does not mean that at some point we cannot consider it, but we feel that the most important thing is to stabilize. The players like this: they like the two singles and the double.”
