Morata now third best European Championship goalscorer –

Spain’s striker and captain Alvaro Morata has worked his way up the goalscoring charts. The 31-year-old from Atletico Madrid is now the third-best goalscorer in the history of the European Football Championships, along with England’s Alan Shearer and France’s Antoine Griezmann, after opening the scoring in the 3-0 win against Croatia on Saturday evening in Berlin. All three have scored seven times.

The Frenchman Michel Platini is ahead of the trio with nine goals in just five matches. The leader is Cristiano Ronaldo with 14 goals in 25 matches. Portugal’s superstar can still improve his tally at the tournament in Germany.

With his 36th international goal, Morata has overtaken David Silva (35) in the list of Spain’s top scorers and is now fourth. David Villa leads the statistics with 59 goals, clearly ahead of Raul (44) and Fernando Torres (38).
