Almuñécar’s soccer coach, Carlos González, signed for Club Atlético Ottawa of the Canadian Premier League.

González signs for two seasons that begins this Monday in Spain the preparation

The sexitan soccer coach, Carlos González, 35, has signed this Thursday for the Ottawa Club (Canada) for the next two seasons. The Canadian club, a franchise of Atletico de Madrid and which plays in the Premier League, has opted for González for being “a young and promising coach with experience, perspective and versatility”, according to the Club.

Carlos González will have two trusted coaches to guide this squad: David Galán, who will act as assistant coach and physical preparation leader, and Borja Montero, who will act as goalkeeping coach. Both men were part of Gonzalez’s staff while in Kuwait.

The Almuñecar coach attributes his beginnings as a coach to his studies in Sports Science at the Alfonso X el Sabio University and the University of Granada. It was then that he developed his understanding of sports performance management and the desire to pursue football coaching as a career arose.

He began training with Málaga Club de Fútbol’s youth teams in 2012, before joining the Atlético de Madrid organization in 2015. He showed his potential rising through the ranks of Atlético’s youth teams before he was entrusted with the role of coach of the U-19 team in 2018.

In 2020, González was appointed head coach of the Kuwaiti Under-23 National Team, where he led the team to its first Asian Cup qualification in ten years. He then went on to coach the senior team in three AFC Cup matches, earning two wins and one draw.

Carlos González takes a leap, not only from the continent but also from a different climate that will force him to develop the competition on dates other than the central and southern European ones because, precisely, his new team flies to Spain this Saturday to begin pre-season training This Monday, February 28. The team will spend four full weeks in Spain, with two daily sessions and some test matches, before returning to Ottawa. On March 26 it will finish its preparation. Atlético Ottawa opens its 2022 campaign at home on Saturday, April 9.
