Three medals for the Baie-Comeau judo club at the Quebec Open

The athletes of the Baie-Comeau judo club won three medals in the 44e edition of the Quebec Open, held on November 13 and 14 in Montreal.

In the U16s of less than 42 kilograms on the men’s side, Machiel Talbot lost in the final against Tristan Lapointe, of the Boucherville judo club, and obtained the silver medal.

Also in the U16 category of less than 42 kg, Samuel Roberge-Poitras finished third with the Ontarian Arel Roitman.

In the senior women’s under 78 kg category, local representative Mina Coulombe grabbed second place with a record of two wins and one loss.

U18

In the U18 female category over 70 kg, Émylia Paredes-Lavoie took fifth position. She concluded the competition with four losses in as many fights. Despite everything, the technical director of the Baie-Comeau judo club, Robin Gagné, indicates that his fights were positive.

As for Marie-Joëlle Fortin, who competes in the U18s under 63 kg, she finished the competition in eighth place. She lost both of her fights as a punishment.

Mr. Gagné gives a positive feedback on the performances of his proteges.

“I think it’s super positive. The young people are in good condition, the young people are in good shape. Young people, what is missing is competition. You have to compete. Young people, we are going to align them on this. To increase (the competition) at the dojo, because, often, what happens is that in the dojo, it’s our friends, so we don’t push the machine a lot, but we have to push it to make it clear what to do. But the young people, what they did there, it is very very good ”, supports the technical director.

It should be noted that the athletes from the Baie-Comeau club who took part in the Open for the U16 and U18 are in their first year in their respective category.

Vincent Roberge-Poitras, originally from Baie-Comeau and now a member of the Boucherville Judo Club, where he is enrolled in a sports-study program, obtained the seventh position among U18s under 60 kg. He is also in his first year in his category.
