Junior Parma Secures Impressive Double Victory Against Brescia

Beautiful, because unexpected. Beautiful, because Junior Parma took everything it took to win with their own strength against an opponent who fought until the twenty-seventh out of game two.

The double match against Brescia gave the boys from via Parigi their first double of the season (16-5 and 9-6 in the finals), which was very important to break away from both Ares Milano, defeated twice in Sala Baganza, and Porta Mortara, who drew with Piacenza and will host Junior in Novara on Sunday to close the first round.

In game one Filippo Ferrari was the perfect lead-off of a perfect game: 4 out of 4 in the box plus a base ball and 5 runs scored because behind him Francesco Tinarelli always managed to take advantage of his shifts to make him advance, because Stefano Giannetti finished 2 for 3 with two base balls, 5 runs batted in and his second home run of the season in a sixth 5-run attack that allowed the game to end prematurely due to obvious inferiority. Four points batted home instead go to Saverio Amoretti’s personal scoresheet, including the two sacrifice flies in the first inning in which the Junior immediately took the lead 2-0, and then in the second when with another 4 points Angrisano’s team Brescia were immediately pushed back. The entire line-up had a hand in the final 16 points and was able to get on base consistently even in the lower half: a hit, 3 base balls and a hit for Michele Sorvillo, a double with full bases for Nicolò Mordacci , a point scored for both Arturo Amoretti and Mattia Maioli. The pitching mound obviously also benefited from such an on-the-ball attack, with Gian Marco Zoni achieving his second victory in as many starts and Federico Dallatana solid relief.

The real masterpiece, however, came in the second match. The prediction was all on the side of Brescia, who could field Eldi Velazquez, still unbeaten this season with a 4-0 record. Instead, the Junior’s attack immediately attacked him on the fast ball, scoring two runs with Francesco Tinarelli’s single and doubles from Stefano Giannetti and Michele Sorvillo. An excellent defense then helped Tommaso Ruggeri to keep the guest attack at bay: for the pitcher born in 2006, 5 innings pitched for the second consecutive victory and only 2 runs conceded in the third inning on the double hit by Gabriel Gorrin which represented the momentary Brescia draw. After a few empty innings on the effects of Velazquez, the Junior’s bats returned to hit the Lombard starter in the bottom of the fifth. Alberto Berizzi’s first hit of the season opened the ball, then consecutive singles from Tinarelli, Giannetti and Amoretti gave the team the 2 points of the new lead. Ruggeri left the mound to Alessandro Pagani, who started immediately with two quick outs, but then complicated his life by conceding a point to Brescia after allowing 3 base balls in a row. However, things went worse for Fazio from Brescia. Going up to the seventh, he conceded 5 runs and conceded 4 base balls, not being helped by the defense on the serves of Amoretti and Mordacci interspersed with Sorvillo’s timely single. Despite the margin, the Junior trembled until the end: in the ninth, in fact, Pagani left the game after putting the first three batters he faced on base. The task of closing out the match fell to Saverio Amoretti, who conceded Carlos Colina’s triple, but then sealed the double with two consecutive strike-outs on Virgadaula and Scaglia.
