RENEWAL OF THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN MLB AND MASTERCARD

(by Lorenzo Di Nubila) – The Major League Baseball (MLB), the North American Professional League of Baseball, has announced a multi-year extension of its partnership with Mastercard, payment technology specialist, on the eve of this season’s All-Star Game.

The deal will see Mastercard continue as the league’s official partner and presenting sponsor of the All-Star Game, which will take place on July 13 in Denver, Colorado.The partnership will also see Mastercard implement advanced payment technologies across all playing fields. MLB, including contactless point of sale systems and reverse ATMs. It will also provide an enhanced ecommerce checkout experience across the league’s digital platforms.

A new element of the partnership will see the pair launch the Home Team Advantage Small Business Contest during this year’s All-Star Game, which will offer local companies in Atlanta, Boston and Los Angeles the opportunity to win USD 10,000, a digital skills toolkit, stadium resources and a trip to a World Series game.

Additionally, MLB will join Mastercard’s Priceless Planet Coalition, a reforestation program that aims to restore 100 million trees by 2025.

The continuation of the partnership extends a relationship dating back to 1997, making Mastercard one of the longest-running sponsors of the MLB.

“The partnership between Mastercard and MLB has truly evolved over the years as the technology and habits of our fans have evolved,” said Noah Garden, MLB’s chief revenue officer. “Mastercard has helped us bring new payment technologies to the forefront of our fans over the years and we will continue to innovate this space together for the benefit of baseball fans.”
