Jarry debuts with solid victory in Orlando

Little by little, Nicolás Jarry (324th ATP) is recovering his best feelings on his return to the circuit. This Monday he gave a new sample of it by defeating the Taiwanese Jason Jung (160 °), 6-4 and 7-5, in the first round of the Orlando Challenger 2.

In one hour and 50 minutes of the game, the Chilean was relentless with his service, with which he connected 12 aces and won 86% of the points with his first serve, in addition to not giving up any break opportunities throughout the game. He also had a great response by returning, which allowed him to gain an advantage against the second seed of the tournament.

A break in each set was enough for Cristóbal Saavedra’s pupil to settle in the round of 16 of the American contest, where now will face the Canadian Peter Polansky (244 °), who beat local Donald Young (346 °) by a double 6-2.

Against his rival for the quarter-final, Nico already has a favorable record. They met for the only time in singles at the 2019 Phoenix Challenger, where the national tennis player won 6-1, 5-7 and 6-4.

The national tennis player seeks to quickly approach the Grand Slam qualifying positions. That is, to climb around the 220th place, since his goal for this season is to be able to play the qualification of the United States Open. Beyond that, this season has been very good for him, since he started without ranking and thanks to the round of 16 of the ATP 250 in Córdoba, the title of the Challenger of Salinas 1 and the final in Salinas 2 the panorama is much more auspicious.
