Cricket Australia (CA) is investigating a possible violation of the COVID-19 protocol involving Brisbane Heat Captain Chris Lynn and teammate Dan Lawrence.
Important points:
- Chris Lynn and Dan Lawrence got to play in the BBL match tonight
- The couple have returned negative COVID-19 tests
- They have to physically distance themselves from their teammates against the thunder in Canberra
Lynn and Lawrence were given permission to play in the BBL game against the Sydney Thunder at Canberra’s Manuka Oval that evening, despite being in close contact with members of the Canberra public over the weekend.
They have been instructed to distance themselves from their teammates at Manuka Oval.
The couple have returned negative COVID-19 tests, but CA is still trying to determine the extent of their violations and the investigation is still ongoing.
“We are confident that this will be achieved successfully,” said John Orchard, CA chief medical officer, in a statement.
“You have to keep a physical distance from teammates, opposing players, staff and match officials on and especially outside the field of play (indoors).
“We have logs in place for all matches for interaction between people inside and outside the hub.
“Factors such as the nature of outdoor competition, the generally socially distant nature of cricket on the field, and the fact that Canberra is considered a low risk city support the conclusion that either can play tonight without presenting significant risk. “
While minor, it may be Australian cricket’s first domestic season violation of the COVID-19 protocol. The WBBL tournament was played without incident.
