Favre assistant steps in: Edin Terzic should stabilize BVB – sport

And suddenly Edin Terzic is in the spotlight. Champions League draw, press conference, preparation for the game at Werder Bremen – and all of that in a responsible position at Borussia Dortmund. A demanding daily program awaits the 38-year-old on Monday, who 24 hours earlier had been in the shadow of his boss Lucien Favre at the Bundesliga club.

But after separating from the Swiss, Terzic should fix the imbalance at BVB in a hurry. Only one point from the last three league games with the cracking 1: 5 against VfB Stuttgart as a low point, the black and yellow threaten to lose the connection to the top of the table in the Bundesliga.

Sports director Michael Zorc sees the season’s goals as “seriously endangered”. BVB cannot afford to lose any more points on Tuesday (8.30 p.m.) in Bremen, otherwise the top trio – led by Bayer Leverkusen in front of FC Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig – could rush.

Terzic is relatively unknown in Germany. At BVB, the former regional league player worked in the youth team for years before he worked as an assistant coach for Besiktas Istanbul and West Ham United in the professional field. He is now supported by the previous U17 coach Sebastian Geppert and top talent coach Otto Addo.

With quick successes under the new boss, BVB would also gain time in the upcoming search for a coach. After Jürgen Klopp’s long successful era (2008 to 2015), four soccer teachers in Thomas Tuchel, Peter Bosz, Peter Stöger and Favre were already worn out. (dpa)
