Paris 2024 Olympics: Macron “put maximum pressure” on Kylian Mbappé’s “so-called future club”

What will Kylian Mbappé do this summer, and more specifically between the end of July and the beginning of August? For several months, the participation of the PSG striker in the Paris Olympic Games has been one of the many subjects surrounding him, when it is not the name of the club for which he will play next season.

While a French U23 team must participate in the Games, the coach of the France Espoirs team Thierry Henry has the right to add three older players to his list.

Obviously, seeing the best footballer in the country wearing the jersey of the French Olympic team during the Games at home is an image that makes you dream. But Kylian Mbappé’s participation is far from being confirmed. Firstly because the Parisian must play the Euro with the France A team in Germany from June 14 to July 14, but above all because he is promised to join Real Madrid this summer after seven seasons under the colors of PSG.

On this subject, the Madrid club had indicated in a letter addressed to the French Football Federation that it would not release its French players for the Olympic Games, which are not held during FIFA dates. Except that this letter, sent at the end of February, did not mention Kylian Mbappé, the 25-year-old still playing for Paris Saint-Germain.

Macron drops a clue about Mbappé’s future

The subject is so important that the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron has already spoken on the subject and did not escape the question during the arrival of the Olympic flame on Wednesday May 8 in Marseille. While the president lists the sports in which France can win medals, comedian Paul de Saint-Sernin retorts: “There is Kyky, there is Kylian! “. To which Emmanuel Macron responds: “I hope. In any case, I put the maximum pressure on his so-called future club,” not wanting to give the name of Real Madrid. “But it’s always the same: one match after another. We have Euro football, and on July 14, they must win,” smiles the president.

Last week, Emmanuel Macron confided to La Tribune Dimanche that Kylian Mbappé’s father had told him that his son wanted to participate in the Olympic Games. Two days before the semi-final return against Dortmund, the interested party admitted “not thinking much” about the Olympic Games, wanting to give priority to his club deadlines.
