Argentine Emiliano Grillo continues to cling to the illusion of achieving his second victory on the PGA Tour, after maintaining the lead this Saturday at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, which is played at Campo El Camaleón, in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Grillo signed a 68-shot round (3 under par) to take a one-shot lead over American Tom Hoge. At two impacts, Norwegian Victor Hovland is in third place, after a return of 63 strokes (8 under par).
The 28-year-old from Chaco had an encouraging start with a birdie on hole 1 and then took advantage of the two par-5s in the first leg, the 5 and 7.
“I started as a leader and continue as a leader, that was a bit of the idea for today, I hope it lasts another day. I will try to do another round under par tomorrow and see if it is enough,” said Grillo, who accumulates 19 rounds in par or better every time he visited this field designed by Greg Norman.
In any case, the Argentine had to face harassment from several players who took advantage of ideal conditions to score very low scores, such as 63 from Hovland and Adam Long or 62 from world number 3, Justin Thomas, who complete the first five positions.
