James McClean surprises Derry twins with a heartwarming trip to Disneyland

This is the heartwarming moment when James McClean surprised Derry twins, whose father died suddenly in April.

Aoife and Adam Burke, who will be four on Sunday, had a weekend of fun when they were accompanied on Friday by the Mayor of Derry and his wife Cheryl with the children’s favorite cartoon characters, Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

In April, the world of siblings turned upside down when their father Thomas died at the age of 29.

Mr. Burke, also known as “Burkie”, was a former soccer player who played for a number of clubs throughout his career, including Ballymena United and Derry City.

The twins mother, Bronagh Burke, said she just wanted to do everything she could to give her kids a special birthday after “going through so much pain.”

During an appeal to the twins on their birthday on June 1, over 3,000 cards came from around the world – including Australia, the United States and all of Europe.

“You have been through so much pain. You still have a lot to do and you are on a journey like I am.

“A small card can mean so much to them. If they are happy and have a small face, my job is done,” added Bronagh.

“I think Burkie would be extremely proud and honored as Derry and the world recognized her.”

Among the cards was a special card from the Republic of Ireland and footballer James McClean from Stoke City and his wife Erin.

In a video sent to the twins, McClean said, “Hey Adam and Aoife. This is James McClean.

“I just want to wish you a nice fourth birthday and hope you enjoy your surprise trip to Disneyland. I wish you a nice day.”

Bronagh said that the amount of cards and packages they had received had “baffled” the family, adding that they could never repay the kindness that was shown to their family.

She said, “Thank you everyone for all the cards, we’re grateful forever and can’t believe we’re going to Disneyland.

“We are absolutely thrilled and are happy about all 3000 cards. Thank you.”
