Johnson was 79th after the first lap. This is the worst position of a winner in the first round in more than a year. Graeme McDowell finished 81st after the first round of the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship 2019. Johnson had never been worse than 28th after the first round of one of his victories.
4. TEE BALL: Johnson reached another milestone.
Fourteen of his 21 wins were at events where all four rounds were shot by ShotLink. It was the first time he won while losing strokes from the tee.
He scored an average of 4.8 strokes from those 14 wins and led the field in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee in half of these 14 wins. This was only the third time he was ranked outside the top 10 in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee.
Johnson only hit half of his fairways on Sunday, including an off-line tee on par-5-13.
“I didn’t do it well, I didn’t really do it well all day, but I hit my irons well and I felt like I had really good irons all week,” said Johnson after the win .
He finished the week 47th in Fairways Hit (35 out of 56, 63%) and 27th in driving distance (294.4 yards). He hit 12 out of 14 fairways in his third round of 61, but only hit 23 out of 42 (55%) the rest of the week.
