Schwartzman starts beating Fognini at ATP Vienna

Argentine tennis player Diego Schwartzman made his debut in the ATP 500 in Vienna by defeating Fabio Fognini in the first round match by 6-2, 7-5 in an hour and 31 minutes.

After his good week in Antwerp, being a type of surface where ‘El Peque’ is not usually completely comfortable, he obtained a great result and arrived in Vienna with options to continue fighting to be in the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. The transalpine Fognini was measured for the third time, which had not come from reaping great results in recent weeks. The Argentine’s triumph was in 2017 in this same scenario.

Despite being a very attractive game, they had to meet on court 1. From the first game, the Argentine tennis player managed to open differences. Much more regular on the court against a very irregular Fabio who did not want to focus on long points. He made shots of great merit showing that great capacity that he has within his talent but also committing unforced errors. Diego’s pace was much higher and therefore in almost all the games the rest had options despite being able to break in two of them. With 5-2, on the second set ball, he closed the sleeve.

The Argentine had options for the same to happen as in the first set. However, Fognini avoided it and in the next game it was he who aspired to position himself with differences in the electronic game. He had found a middle ground within his game and the duel had become even. Even so, Schwartzman again took advantage of a game in which Fabio’s irregularity was palpated, reaching 2-4. It was time to close the game with 5-4 but he could not reap it with the Italian getting back into the crash.

Equality was broken again with Diego taking advantage of an apathetic Fabio who did not present any type of candidacy. The Argentine was ironclad and finished closing the stake. With this win by Schwartzman over Fognini in the first round of the ATP 500 in Vienna, he will wait for Monfils or Musetti for tomorrow.
