Guangdong Technology and Business Vocational University Men’s Basketball Team Takes Seventh in Provincial League

The finish arrived as the university marked its 30th anniversary.

The league is one of the largest and most competitive collegiate basketball tournaments in Guangdong Province, with Division B-A drawing strong teams and demanding physical play, tactical discipline, teamwork and composure under pressure, the university said. The school’s team faced difficult opponents in every game and advanced through the bracket with consistent effort on both ends of the floor.

Campus-Grown Roster Reaches the Provincial Stage

Every player on the roster is a current student in the university’s School of Physical Education, and many arrived on campus without systematic competitive training, according to the university. They developed through the school’s basketball program, starting on campus courts and progressing to the provincial stage.

During preparation, the players kept up their coursework while maintaining training intensity, using spare time for evening sessions, tactical study, conditioning and scrimmages, the university reported. Zhong Yi led the preparation effort, with head coach Li Bo and assistant coaches Wang Dan and Xia Rui building the training plan, refining offensive and defensive schemes, reviewing practices and warm-up games, addressing individual weaknesses and providing psychological support. The university coordinated class schedules, training facilities and logistical support so the team could focus on preparation.

Seventh Place Caps a 30th Anniversary Year

The university described the result as evidence of its efforts to promote the integration of sports and education, build high-level campus teams and develop students through competitive sport — combining physical training, skill development and character building. The School of Physical Education said it will treat the seventh-place finish as a new starting point, continuing to deepen sports-education integration and encouraging more students to compete at provincial and national levels, the university reported.
