Dongguan City Youth Basketball League runner-up honors went to the Songshan Lake experimental squad after an 89–86 loss to the Dongcheng Experimental Middle School basketball team in the finals’ second leg on Oct. 28, 2026, at Songshan Lake Experimental Middle School.
Songshan Lake Stages Fourth-Quarter Rally
Trailing by 13 points heading into the final period, the home side mounted a furious comeback attempt under pressure. Blue-jerseyed players repeatedly drove into the paint against double and triple teams, converting tough layups to narrow the gap. Despite the late surge, the final whistle froze the scoreboard at 89–86, leaving Songshan Lake just three points short.
Dongcheng Controls the Third Quarter
The contest hung in the balance through a high-tempo opening half. Both teams traded blows in a 21–21 first quarter before Songshan Lake found an offensive rhythm from both inside and outside positions to construct a 47–36 halftime advantage. That momentum vanished after the intermission as Dongcheng Experimental adjusted its approach, deploying a full-court press and collapsing its interior defense. The tactical shift choked off Songshan Lake’s ball movement, fueling a dominant run that flipped the game into a 69–56 visitor lead entering the fourth.
Tournament Structure and Coaching Staff
Organized by the Dongguan Municipal Culture, Broadcasting, Tourism and Sports Bureau, the tournament’s predecessor was the Dongguan Youth Men’s Basketball Championship. The 2026 edition drew 32 junior high school teams from across the city’s towns and industrial parks. Zhang Yaozhong, a teacher at Songshan Lake Experimental Middle School, served as head coach, supported by assistants Wu Jingyu from the Songshan Lake Youth Activity Center and Wu Jiahui from Songshan Lake Central Primary School.
District Talent Pooling and Educational Athletics
The Songshan Lake roster drew its core players from Songshan Lake Experimental Middle School while incorporating standouts from Songshan Lake First Middle School and Songshan Lake Future School. This cross-campus collaboration mirrors the district’s push to pool athletic resources across school boundaries. Operating under the institutional maxim “no sports, no future,” the combined squad navigated a 32-team field to reach the championship series.
