JAKARTA – The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) has provided financial support of more than 10.4 billion Indonesian rupiah to the Indonesian Badminton Federation (PBSI) to help maintain the tradition of winning gold medals at the Olympic Games.
Support was provided in the form of gym equipment and sports science. The handover was made at the National Training Center (Pelatnas) of PBSI Cipayung, East Jakarta on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Ministry of Sports and Tourism (Sesmenpora) Secretary Gunawan Suswantoro said the aid was aimed at supporting the successful badminton discipline in the 2028 Olympics and reestablishing the gold medal tradition.
“The government is conscious of supporting PBSI and other priority sports. PBSI has enormous potential to reach the Olympics. We are committed to providing assistance in terms of resources and infrastructure,” Gunawan said.
The transfer of aid was made by Gunawan Suswantoro to the head of the Indonesian Table Sports Union, Fadil Imran. Support for resources and infrastructure is divided into two main sectors to support physics and the monitoring of athletes’ performances scientifically.
Support in the form of gymnastics equipment is worth Rs7.96 billion and sports science equipment is worth Rs2.48 billion. These devices are expected to support athletes’ preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
“We hope that the equipment provided will be used to the maximum. The message from the Minister (of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir) and the President (Prabowo Subianto) is that we will have to achieve gold in 2028,” Gunawan said.
Fadil Imran welcomed the help. He said the government’s attention was a part of transforming the national performance training system which is so important to achieve great performance in the international arena.
He also assured that all equipment received by his party would be managed professionally and responsibly.
“All state aid must really translate into an improvement in the quality of training and the health of athletes. We want to ensure that Indonesia maintains a tradition of precision until the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics,” he said.
Badminton previously failed to continue the gold medal tradition at the 2024 Olympics held in Paris. At the time, the sport’s only bronze medal was won by Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
