Japanese tennis player Yuki Naito advanced to her fourth career W100 singles quarterfinal at the NBTX Open in New Braunfels, Texas, before falling to Caroline Dolehide in a three-set match lasting two hours and forty-five minutes.

Naito Falls to Dolehide in Texas Quarterfinals

Competing on the hard courts of New Braunfels, the 25-year-old Japanese player met former world No. 41 Caroline Dolehide of the United States in the single’s quarterfinals on October 31. Naito dropped the opening set, claimed a tight second set, but ultimately lost the match 5-7, 7-5, 2-6.

The tournament runs from October 26 to November 1 with a total prize pool of $100,000. Naito’s run to the last eight marks her fourth career appearance in a W100 singles quarterfinal, following a similar deep run at an event in Evansville, Indiana, in July.

Early Round Victories Over Routliffe Obregon and Brengle

To reach the quarterfinals, Naito navigated a demanding path through the opening rounds of the Texas tournament as an unseeded competitor. In her opening match, she defeated Ann Christine Lutkemeier Obregon of the United States in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6(10), surviving a lengthy tiebreak in the second set.

She followed that performance with a dominant win in the second round, eliminating the tournament’s eighth seed, Madison Brengle of the United States, by a score of 6-1, 6-2.

Other Japanese Competitors in New Braunfels

Fellow Japanese player Mayu Crossley also contested the singles draw at the Texas hard-court event. Crossley successfully fought through two qualifying matches to earn a spot in the main draw, where she faced veteran Dutch player Arantxa Rus in the opening round.

Rus defeated Crossley in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, ending the qualifier’s run in the main tournament.
