Wim De Coninck predicts a witch’s cauldron in Jan Breydel: “Unthinkable that Cercle will win against that crazy 12th man”

A home match for both Bruges teams, although it will feel completely different for Club than for Cercle. Blauw-zwart will soon have the real home advantage – including the twelfth man – and according to analyst Wim De Coninck, this will help Club win the title. “Although Cercle remains the most hated team to play against in our competition.”

Last week they were finally knocked out of the title race, but now they have everything in their own hands at Club Brugge to become national champions after all.

A draw against city rivals Cercle Brugge is sufficient for title 19, and analyst Wim De Coninck sees that will work out. “At first glance it is not that difficult an assignment. A draw is sufficient.”

“It remains to be seen whether it will actually be that easy, but given their flow and the great play-offs they play, the advantage really lies with Club. They have always been so confident of victory in the last matches.”

“It seems unthinkable to me that Cercle will win. Of course they also play on their own field, but they have to compete against a great twelfth man. He will be very crazy today.”

Reference has already been made to a salon draw, but that is really playing with fire.

Yet a warning soon follows for the leader of our competition. “The only time Club played less in the Champions’ Play-offs was against Cercle.”

“And the atypical playing style actually makes Cercle the most hated club to compete against in our competition. Playing football under their pressure is really very difficult.”

“A long ball can help in that case, but Thiago is absent. They could have used that very well at Club.”

Thiago will not be able to make the difference for Club.

Salonremise?

And then there is that other question mark about Club-Cercle that has been doing the rounds for a whole week.

Both clubs will soon need just one point (Club for the title, Cercle for a direct ticket to the Europa League). Will the people of Bruges agree to an agreement and will it just become a draw?

“There was indeed already reference to a salon draw,” says De Coninck. “But that’s really playing with fire.”

“On the other hand, the three previous Bruges derbies this season ended in a draw. So it is not inconceivable that it will soon be a draw.”
