Andrea Trinchieri, in the LBA column Basketball and Conversationinterview…Andrea Trinchieri. The Zalgiris coach talks about his entire journey that took him to the highest levels of continental basketball. In this anecdote he talks about his experiences at Partizan and Zalgiris.

The privilege

“I’m not an ex-player, I coached in the first division. I had no saints in Heaven and no one pushing me. I had the fortune and privilege of coaching two of the most historic teams in all of Europe, Partizan and Zalgiris, where you are always supported. In these places people know basketball, so they know when someone is playing above their limits.”

On the impact of the public

“Playing in front of this type of support can also be seen in the statistics. All items that derive from energy, which are breakthroughs, blocks, steals and offensive rebounds, are increased by 30%. When you have 20,000 people coming to see you do something, it’s much easier for the coach to ask my players to do it.”

On being coach of Zalgiris

“Being a coach here makes you happy because you have a well-defined, delineated role. You are like a semi-deity.”
