Tennis Star Andrey Rublev to Miss Olympic Games in Paris

The current tennis world number six Andrey Rublev will miss the Olympic Games in Paris. His mother announced this to Russian media.

The Olympic tennis tournament is one attraction poorer. As Andrey Rublev’s mother explained to the portal “sport24”, her son will not take part in the games in Paris this year.

“Andrey will not go to the Olympic Games in Paris. I recently learned from him himself that he will not take part. He did not tell me why. But of course he had a desire to take part in the tournament,” said the player’s mother, who suspects her son has health problems.

“I think it has something to do with his health. […] He has recently been receiving permanent treatment. I know that his body is very weak,” she added.

Badosa also misses the Olympic tennis tournament

Rublev is not the only well-known name who will miss the Olympic Games in Paris. A few days ago, Spaniard Paula Badosa had to announce that she would not be taking part in the season’s highlight. She has been suffering from back problems for some time, which are now slowing her down again.

“Due to my current situation with my injury, I will unfortunately not be able to go to the Olympic Games, which I was really looking forward to. This is a very difficult decision for me,” the former number two in the world rankings said a few days ago.

For Rublev, the Olympic exit is doubly bitter because it deprives him of the chance to stand at the top of the podium for the second time in a row. At the Tokyo Games, he was crowned Olympic champion in the mixed doubles competition together with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. To date, it is the greatest success in the career of the 26-year-old, who is number two in the country after Daniil Medvedev.
