The 2023/2024 School Sports Calendar Highlights Exciting Events in Albacete

The 2023/2024 School Sports Calendar organized by the Provincial Council of Albacete experienced a new day this past weekend, with the celebration of cycling, gymnastics, badminton and athletics events. The III San Isidro de Munera Trophy was held under the organization of the Villarrobledo Cycling Club, thanks to the collaboration of the Castilla-La Mancha Cycling Federation and with the support of the town council. More than 75 schoolchildren participated in this competition, in the promise, beginner, juvenile, infant and cadet categories.

Rhythmic gymnastics
The 2nd phase of the Albacete Interclub Rhythmic Gymnastics League was held in the town of Casas Ibáñez, where the good atmosphere filled the stands on a morning where almost 300 gymnasts gathered to give their best. The participating clubs and organizers of the event were: Club La Roda, Minaya, the ACYDA schools of Munera and CP San Pablo of Albacete, the IDEPA Multisports Club of Albacete with the Inmaculada Concepción Public School, Giner de Los Ríos, Diego Velázquez, Francisco Coll , Christopher Columbus, San Fulgencio, Mayor Zaragoza, Villacerrada and Cervantes. The Casas Ibáñez school of rhythmic gymnastics was the great host of the event.

In the youngest category, the results were Giner de los Ríos Barbie-IDEPA (1st), Casas Ibáñez (2nd) and La Roda (3rd). In the junior category, La Roda Rosa won, ahead of Inmaculada Concepción A-IDEPA and Giner de los Ríos Bella y Bestia-IDEPA. In the children’s category, the podium was made up of La Roda, Minaya and Diego Velázquez-IDEPA. As a cadet, La Roda won. For its part, in the senior category the IDEPA Multisports Club won, ahead of San Pablo-ACYDA. Although only a few were able to get on the podium, the public applauded the great performance of all the participating teams, rewarding the effort and work of the gymnasts and coaches.

The Albacete Interclub Rhythmic Gymnastics League would not be possible without the help of the Albacete Provincial Council, the Castilla-La Mancha Community Board, the Casas Ibáñez City Council and the AMPA of the CEIP San Agustín of this same town, FAMPA, FECAM and all the volunteers who collaborated in the event. The top three finishers from each phase will compete in the La Roda final on Friday, May 17.

Badminton
The Parque Sur Pavilion in Albacete was the scene of the final of the Provincial School Age Badminton Championship. Young promising badminton players from all over the province gathered in this emblematic place to demonstrate their skill and passion for the sport, culminating a tournament marked by high competition and sportsmanship.

In the U11 men’s category, Pedro Martínez Arnedo (Alpera) took first place, closely followed by Asier Rodríguez Molina (Albarena). The representatives of Higueruela, Mateo Mínguez García and Martín González Teruel, completed the positions of honor, occupying the third and fourth position, respectively. In the women’s section, Noa Navarro López (Socovos) was crowned champion, followed by Emma Ortiz Verdiell (Bádminton Albacete). Blanca Tortosa Cano (Higueruela) and Marta García Mariscal (Ontur) took third and fourth place.

The competition in the U13 category was also intense. Alejandro Rodríguez Molina (Albarena) won the title in the men’s division, with Johan Adalid Antúnez Maldonado (Ontur) as runner-up. Pablo Ballesteros Berjaga (Albarena) and Ismael Álvarez López (Lezuza) won third and fourth place. Among the girls, Martina Nuño from La Rosa (Bádminton Albacete) took the gold, followed by Alejandra Horcajada Sánchez and Noemy García Martínez, both from Albarena, and Tanya García Romanova, also from Albarena, in fourth place.

Adolescents in the U15 category showed outstanding skills. Francisco Correoso García (Higueruela) won in the men’s category, followed by Yuriy García Romanova, Jorge Cuevas Tortosa (both from Albarena) and David Sánchez Fuentes (Lezuza). In the women’s category, Marina Simarro Rubio (Albarena) stood out as champion, with Belén Sánchez Yáñez (Aguas Nuevas), Sara Mora Martínez (Hellín) and Lola Ruiz Martínez (Albarena) completing the first four places.

In Sub17, Sergio Jiménez Martínez (Bádminton Albacete) triumphed in the men’s category, with his clubmate Ángel Cañamares Campoy in second place. Pedro Tortosa Cano (Higueruela) and Héctor Dufosse Amorós (Bádminton Albacete) took third and fourth place. Lucía Barbero Yeste (Bádminton Albacete) headed the women’s list, followed by Lucía Marqueño Jiménez (Albarena), Gema Muñoz Martínez (Bádminton Albacete) and Nadia Henic Carrión (Hellín).

This championship has not only highlighted the technique and effort of these young athletes, but also the commitment of the community and local clubs to promoting sport among schoolchildren. With each match and each stroke, these athletes not only competed for a medal, but also to develop values ​​of discipline, respect and perseverance. All of these players have qualified for the Regional School-age Badminton Championship to be held on May 18 in Tomelloso (Ciudad Real).

The Albacete Athletics Tracks hosted the first day of the Provincial Outdoor Track Athletics Championship for Minors, with the participation of the sub 8, sub 10 and sub 12 categories, thanks to the collaboration of the Castilla Athletics Federation. La Mancha and the support of the Albacete City Council, through the Municipal Sports Institute. In this event, events of 60 meters dash, 500 meters, 1,000 meters, 60 meters hurdles, 4×60 relay, long jump and shot put were held.
