Quentin Halys stopped in the 3rd round of qualifying at Roland-Garros

For the fifth time in five appearances in Roland-Garros qualifying, Quentin Halys failed to emerge. The Frenchman (27 years old) lost on Friday in the 3rd round, as in 2021, this time against Filip Misolic (2-6, 6-4, 6-3). The Austrian is thus the survivor of a part of the table which included Cristian Garin and Diego Schwartzman at the start of the week, even though he is the lowest ranked of all at the ATP (241st).

After having fought for more than three hours to defeat the Argentinian in the super tie-break on Wednesday (4-6, 6-4, 7-6 [7]), Halys got the best start. He played fair (14 winners for only 5 unforced errors in the first set), served well and imposed his preferred lines on his opponent.

No eighth Roland-Garros for Halys

But Misolic hung on and ended up breaking the rhythm of the Bondynois, who committed 30 unprovoked faults over the last two rounds. Halys had the merit of hanging on, even though the match was turning and he was only two games away from seeing the end, at 4-4 in the second set. But his three unforced errors in his service game allowed the Austrian to come back to the level.

The dynamic had changed for good, and Halys never managed to turn the match around, despite the support of the short Suzanne-Lenglen. Misolic’s joy after a final mistake from the Frenchman was that of a player who will be playing in his first Grand Slam final draw. it would have been Halys’ eighth at Roland Garros. A rollercoaster of which he remained at the door.
