Canoeing: European Speed ​​Championships;  today 2 bronzes for Italy – Other Sports

Two more medals for Italy in canoe sprint at the European Championships which concluded today on the Maty-ér Regatta Course in Szeged, Hungary. Climbing onto the third step of the podium are two Olympic boats: the C2 500 of Carlo Tacchini and Gabriele Casadei, and the K4 500 of Manfredi Rizza, Tommaso Freschi, Francesco Lanciotti and Giovanni Penato.


The Italy of speed returns from Szeged with a haul of four medals: two golds (K2 1000 and C2 1000) and two bronzes (C2 500 and K4 500).


Carlo Tacchini and Gabriele Casadei win the bronze medal in the final of the men’s C2 500. An important and long-awaited test, in view of the Paris Games, which confirms them among the big names in the specialty. A comeback race that saw them finish at the finish line in 1:42.58, 35 hundredths behind the neutral athletes Ivan Shtyl and Alexey Korovashkov, gold medalist in 1:42.22, and the Poles Wiktor Glazunow and Arsen Sliwinski, silver in 1: 42.40.


A feat also achieved in the K4 500 final by the Italian team made up of Olympic silver medalist Manfredi Rizza, Tommaso Freschi, Francesco Lanciotti and Giovanni Penato. The Italian crew finished in the sprint with a time of 1:22.26 which was worth the bronze, won at the end of a heart-pounding race which saw them in the podium area from the first inter-time. The winner is the boat of neutral athletes made up of Mikita Borykau, Uladzislau Kravets, Uladzislau Litvinau and Dzmitry Natynchyk, European champions in 1:21.72, ahead of the Poles Jakub Stepun, Przemyslaw Korsak, Piotr Morawski and Slawomir Witczak, silver in 1:21.78.
