Paris Saint-Germain Triumphs in Coupe de France Final Over Olympique Lyonnais

Paris was above. And Paris regains the Cup. Luis Enrique’s men overcame Olympique Lyonnais (1-2) in the Coupe de France final and won a trophy that they had not won since 2021. In Pierre-Mauroy (Villeneuve d’Ascq), the Lyonnais suffered too much and conceded two goals early in the match, scored by Ousmane Dembélé and Fabian Ruiz. Kylian Mbappé did not score, but leaves the capital with one last trophy.

In this final relocated outside Île-de-France, PSG was at the party. The teammates of Marquinhos (who was playing in his 7th Coupe de France final, a record) did the job to sign the championship-cup double. They never trembled, even though the match began in the euphoria of fireworks and festivities. Totally crazy first three minutes with chances on both sides. Then Paris restored order.

Faced with a low Lyon block and struggling to get the ball out, the Parisian attack made its mark. Ousmane Dembélé was responsible for opening the score with a header (22nd), not his specialty. But the number 10 had mostly been left alone at the far post and only had to finish from close range. The same defensive wanderings allowed Fabian Ruiz to double the lead (34th), this time on the other post and with his foot, in two stages. Enough to knock out Pierre Sage’s men, who were too passive and not in their final.

Mbappé was hungry but leaves Paris without scoring

Paris Saint-Germain could even have added to the bill without an inspired Lucas Perri. Even if the action was canceled due to an offside at the start, the goalkeeper even won against a magnificent scissor from Kylian Mbappé (31st). For his last match with the Rouge et Bleu, the number 7 was hungry and showed a lot of determination. He lacked a bit of success and space while most of his attempts were blocked by the Lyon block grouped in front of him.

Mbappé therefore leaves with one last medal in his suitcases. His teammates will be able to count on other assets next season, like a Dembélé who is still at the level and a Barcola who would have deserved to catch fire as he lit fuses on the right side. But also on an ability to hold the ball, keep possession and make your opponent run. Alexandre Lacazette’s teammates suffered this law for most of the match and especially during the last 20 interminable minutes. However, Jake O’Brien’s goal from a corner had awakened the entire northern corner and revived the Gones. It was far from enough to return to success and come home with a trophy, which would have been the first since 2012.
