The Lakers took the door in the first round of the playoffs in this 2024 edition, with a front office already very criticized for its work. Behind the scenes, LeBron James had requests… all refused.
The coming summer will be important for the Lakers, who hope not to do anything for this new offseason. Between the Russell Westbrook trade, the departure of Alex Caruso or disappointing drafts, the Angelinos are far from having made the right choices in recent years. The fans are therefore hoping for good things, with why not another GM.
Unfortunately for these supporters, only the departure of Darvin Ham seems to have been confirmed. The coach will bear the brunt of the bad season in Los Angeles, although it must be recognized that he is the main culprit in all of this. Unfortunately for him, James was not listened to by his front office. Would this have changed the outcome of the season? Maybe not, but Pelinka now has no choice: he will have to make changes. We know that several targets appeal to the Lakers, including Trae Young and Dejounte Murray. It remains to know their availability and price.
It is interesting to note that James should not turn the page, he who can take advantage of his free agent status (if he refuses his option) to put pressure on the front office. During his last media interview, he refused to say more about his future, aware that he is in a position of strength in these talks.
LeBron James would have indeed asked for another star from the Lakers, but he was not listened to. Not sure that the story will be the same during the summer, especially after this new failure in the first round of the playoffs.
