Auria Badminton Club Shines at Canary Islands Championships with Four Medals

The club won two silver and two bronze in the individual competition

Four members of the Auria Badminton Club participated this past weekend in the Canary Islands Sub’15 (Children’s) and Sub’17 (Cadet) Championships, representing Lanzarote in a new edition of the Canary Islands School Age Championship, organized by the Management General of Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands. The players of the Auria Badminton Club won four medals in the individual competition held in the town of Puerto de la Cruz, in Tenerife.

Adrián Carabali, number two seed in the men’s under-17 category, had no problems entering the playoffs by beating Samuel Andrés Contreras (21-7/21-1) and Manuel in his two group stage matches. Acosta (21-16/21-8). In the quarterfinals, the Auria Bádminton Club player beat Raúl Hernández (21-10/21-9) and lost in the semifinals against Mateo de Luis (15-21/12-21), winning the bronze medal.

The second bronze of the Auria Badminton Club expedition was achieved by Graciela Müggler in the women’s under-17 category. The Lanzarote native won her three group stage matches, beating Mencía Viña (21-7/21-7), Aixa Santana (21-7/21-7) and Yara Negrín (21-12/21-7). In the quarterfinals, Graciela Müggler beat Lucía María Rosales (21-15/21-14) and lost in the semifinals to Naiala Rolo (12-21/10-21).

In the doubles category, Adrián Carabali was paired with majorero César Mateo Camejo and the competition in the under-17 category was developed through a group of five couples. They won their first three matches against Luis Hernández and Raúl Hernández (21-17/21-19). Samuel Andrés Contreras and Aday Negrín (21-13/21-14), and Nigel Castrillo and Daniel Ramos (21-9/21-16). Finally, they had to settle for silver after losing in the last match against Mateo De Luis and Pablo Pineda (15-21/12-21).

Graciela Müggler and Martina Negrín competed in the women’s doubles competition in the under-17 category, winning the silver medal. In the group stage, the Auria Bádminton Club players beat María Pérez and Leyna Santana (21-2/21-9) and Nekal Parón and Mencía Viña (21-11/21-12), and in the semifinals they beat Aixa Santana and Aimee Schonefeld (21-17/21-23/21-11). In the grand final, they were defeated by the couple formed by Sulimar Cabrera and Alejandra Serra (23-25/15-21).

In the team competition held on Friday at the Municipal Pavilion of Puerto de la Cruz, the Lanzarote team had a brilliant performance. In the under-15 category, Lanzarote won the gold medal and climbed to the top of the podium, and in the under-17 category the bronze medal was achieved.
