On the day his nomination for the European Championship squad was announced, Jonathan Tah spoke out with a video message whose content reached far beyond the football field and the upcoming tournament.
National player Jonathan Tah has denounced “hate speech” online with an emotional statement. “The anonymity of many users means that a lot of negativity can be spread,” said the central defender in a video message distributed by the DFB: “Individual people are often affected by this, and I have also experienced such things – whether it is racist or has other backgrounds . It was always very discriminatory and didn’t feel good.”

That’s why it’s “important that associations and clubs talk about it as best they can.” The German Football Association, the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and the German Football League (DFL) held an event on May 13th with the motto “Together against hate speech”.

“The most important thing is that no one feels alone and that the voice of positivity is always louder than anything else,” Tah continued: “That’s why I’m in favor of us speaking out for tolerance and fighting it together and positivity always winning let.” (sid/hau)
