It was a terrible tragedy that occurred in Grande-Synthe, in Hauts-de-France. As reported by La Voix du Nord, a 23-year-old young man died when he thought he was going on a date. Registered on dating sites to find the right person, Philippe, his first name, thought he would finally be able to meet someone but a completely different destiny awaited him.
Arriving at the meeting place, the young man was attacked by three individuals in front of the Noordover high school. The latter were armed with a baseball bat and an ax according to some testimonies. On the night of April 15 to 16, 2024, around 2 a.m., Philippe was violently attacked. “He would have been dragged to the parking lot behind Carrefour Contact and left for dead.” specifies the newspaper Le Phare.

Treated by emergency services, the victim had no chance of survival because his vital prognosis was already in jeopardy. Philippe was quickly taken to hospital but died on the night of Tuesday April 16.
To be able to organize his funeral and pay tribute to him, his family opened a Leetchi fundraiser. In the latter, she also gave more details about her attack. “On the night of Monday April 15, Philippe was cowardly attacked by several individuals as he returned home. He died the next day from his injuries. We would like the opportunity to offer Philipe a respectful farewell and provide comfort to his family, especially his mother and brothers. This is why we launched this fundraiser,” wrote those close to him.

In the description of the prize pool, the relatives of the deceased also spoke about him. “Philippe was a young man of 23. He worked in a socio-educational center. He was honest, generous, full of life, always smiling and ready to help others. His departure, as sudden as it was unexpected, left a family inconsolable and devastated.” they concluded. For now, the prize pool has already exceeded 11,000 euros.
