Tennis: another glitch for Arthur Cazaux, who gives up in the first round at the Barcelona tournament

A month after his illness, Arthur Cazaux returned to competition this Monday in Barcelona in preparation for the Roland-Garros tournament. Opposed to the Italian Matteo Arnaldi, the Montpellier native was unable to finish the match after twisting his right ankle at the end of the first set. While the score was very close (5/5 – 40/40), he slipped from the baseline while running towards the net to restart a drop shot from his opponent.

The Frenchman (75th in the ATP) saw his ankle twist when he came into contact with the baseline. In his momentum, he hopped on one foot before collapsing, dropping his racket. After being joined by the referee and his opponent, the 21-year-old was taken off the court limping very low. Unable to resume the match, the eighth finalist of the last Australian Open had to withdraw.

In mid-March, the Frenchman had already had to abandon a match, suffering from discomfort against his compatriot Harold Mayot during qualifying for the Masters 1000 in Miami. Victim of dehydration, Arthur Cazaux collapsed on the court and had to undergo examinations in hospital for 24 hours.
