Morelos Archer Maximo Mendez Ortiz Heads to Archery World Cup in China

After winning the team gold medal just last weekend at the Pan American Championships in Colombia, Morelos archer Máximo Méndez Ortiz left for his first archery World Cup event, which will take place from the 23rd to the 28th. April in the Chinese city of Shanghai.

The native of Cuernavaca, just 19 years old, began his international participation in the city of Medellín this year in the best way by obtaining the gold metal for Mexico, winning the medal along with Sebastián García and Juan del Río in the compound bow modality.

After returning to Mexico for just a few days, the athlete took the plane again with the rest of the Mexican team to fly to China and make his debut in the series of World Cups of the specialty, a tournament that counts towards the world ranking.

After the event in China, the serial will continue in two other Asian cities; The second date will be in Yecheon Gun, South Korea, from May 21 to 26, and the third in Antalya, Turkey, from June 18 to 23. As it is an Olympic year, the 2024 World Cup series will only have these three stages.

The Mexican team is made up of 12 athletes, specialists in compound and recurve bows.

Máximo Méndez from Morelos is part of the six-member compound bow team, among which are also Sebastián García and Juan Del Río, with whom he achieved gold in the recently completed continental event.

In addition, the women’s team is made up of Dafne Quintero, Maya Becerra and Esmeralda Sánchez. For the Olympic test recurve bow specialty, there are those already classified for Paris 2024, Alejandra Valencia, Ángela Ruiz and Ana Paula Vázquez, in addition to Matías Grande, Javier Rojas and Bruno Martínez.
