The Mexican Soccer Federation (FMF) and US Soccer withdrew their joint bid to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup to focus on the 2031 edition.

In a statement, the presidents of both federations explained that the delay in their application will allow them to take advantage of the lessons learned from the 2026 Men’s Cup and generate greater support in the host cities, as well as improving agreements with the press.

Organizing a World Cup is an enormous task and having additional time to prepare allows us to maximize its impact on the world, said the president of the US federation, Cindy Parlow Cone, who stressed the commitment to offering equitable experiences to players, fans and all interested parties.

Just in March when progress and new challenges were presented in the Liga Mx Femenil during a conference in Toluca, the head of the FMF, Ivar Sisniega, assured that Mexico was prepared to guarantee the success of the 2027 Cup. In organizational strategy it was considered the use of the same stadiums, training fields and hotels that the men’s teams will have in the Mexico-United States-Canada 2026 tournament.

After careful analysis, according to the document, Sisniega changed his position. We believe that delaying the bid to 2031 will allow us to promote and prepare for the most successful Women’s World Cup in history. The strength and universality of our professional leagues, combined with our experience in organizing the 2026 tournament, will contribute to the growth of women’s soccer.

The only candidates are those of Brazil and the triple alliance Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
